The longer answer
AI customer support is the modern version of automated support. Earlier generations were rule trees: 'if visitor types X, reply Y' — which broke on phrasing variations and frustrated everyone. The current generation uses large language models trained on general knowledge plus your specific docs as a source of truth.
The core capability is retrieval-augmented answering: the AI agent reads the visitor's question, finds the most relevant passages in your knowledge base, and composes a natural-language reply from what they say. A good agent is told not to guess: if the answer isn't in your knowledge base, it says so, and the visitor can ask for a person. In Replyze, the visitor can tap 'Talk to an agent' at any time.
Good AI customer support takes the repetitive questions every business gets (pricing, how-to, integrations, returns, refund policy). The work that needs judgment (complaints, refunds, custom requests) goes to a person, with the conversation so far in front of them. How the work splits depends on your questions and on how much of them your articles cover, so measure your own split instead of trusting an industry average.
For a small team, the practical gain is that repeat questions no longer wait for a person, at any hour, and the people you have spend their time on the conversations that need them.
